Penguin Crafts
We can thank Sam over at Simple Everyday Mom for this fun project! Paper bag puppets like these are not only a joy to make, but also a wonderful opportunity to play and learn too. There are lots of possibilities here: explore storytelling by putting on a puppet show, encourage speech through imaginative play, practice reading, and so much more.
Sonja and Jane of Sustain my Craft Habit came up with this delightful penguin craft idea, and when we saw it we knew right away we wanted to include it on this DIY list. Create your own little penguin family with their charming how-to.
Kim from The Best Ideas for Kids got quite creative and came up with this art activity that is perfect for kids who like getting a bit messy. Make sure to date the back of the paper, so you can always remember just how old they were when they made this sweet keepsake.
Another great one from Kim! All you need to make this funny winter friend are popsicle sticks (mini and regular sizes), paint (black and white), construction paper, pom-poms, and some wiggle eyes.
- Paper Plate Penguin by Our Kid Things
(Ages 5-8)
Our Kid Things cleverly realized that cotton balls make for a fantastic and very soft penguin tummy. Also, who can resist those fluffy earmuffs?
- Penguin Bookmark by Craft Play Learn
(Ages 5++)
More penguin crafts featuring wiggle eyes? Yes, please! As Angela mentions in her tutorial, the gluing, cutting, and sticking required here are wonderful ways to help your kid develop their fine motor skills. Another added bonus is that this DIY bookmark encourages a love of reading. The tiny colorful hats on the penguins’ round heads are an especially darling addition.
- Popsicle Stick Penguin Puzzle
(Ages 5++)
Creating a puzzle from scratch is a fun challenge to take on, and the only supplies you need are colored markers, tape, and popsicle sticks… so, what are you waiting for? Hop or waddle your way over to Premeditated Leftover’s site for some simple instructions on how to make your own.
- Newspaper Penguin by iHeartCraftyThings
(Ages 3-10)
This Newspaper Penguin Craft is an excellent mixed media project for kids looking to explore using different materials in their art-making. We are so happy to be including iHeartCraftyThings’s darling project that upcycles newsprint in such a whimsical way!
- Egg Carton Penguin
(Ages 3-5)
Who knew an egg carton could be turned into something so adorable? These Egg Carton penguins are a great indoor project for a chilly winter’s day. In addition to the egg cartoon, for this simple craft you’ll need some paint (white and black), paintbrushes, glue, wiggle eyes, and orange felt. Most eggcelent!
